Stop and think

Stop and think what could have been,
Ponder for a while,
Hopes and dreams that you once had,
Forgotten and unseen.

Think of all that you did wrong,
The little you did right,
The things you should have had in time,
What made you wait so long?

No great joy you've had in life,
No gift for what you've done,
Just anger held up tight inside,
This hate and mourning rife.

No reward for the good you've done,
Profuse pain for the bad,
No fairness to the life you've lived,
All the love you've sewn, undone.

Halt a moment, think a while,
Let sour thoughts up rise,
A learning game you're forced to play,
What's another mile?
